Winter Skincare Routine

Okay, so here's the deal - I never thought my skin would ever be this clear of acne scars, smooth as butta and less tomato looking... ya know?

In 2018 I made a promise to myself to spend less money on makeup and focus more on taking care of my skin... well the money thing didn't really work out and I ended up spending just as much on skincare but you know what, my skin has never looked better.

I was determined to find a few key products that worked really well for my skin, I didn't settle for any less than my PERFECT products. The Sephora return policy was my best friend for a while as I was testing out and trying new products (you can also get samples of products you want to try before buying).

So on this skincare journey of mine I realized just how sensitive my skin is... like I'm talking first day period SENSITIVE. Needless to say I had my work cut out for me.

I had to stay away from strong fragrances, such as perfume or chemical scents. Any products with artificial dies was a no. Many products broke me out... but my trick was to only add in a product at a time so that if something went wrong I could pin point which product it was and trash it.

After all of the trial and error of endless amounts of products, I've finally narrowed it down to my top 7 LIFE CHANGING products. These were the products that my skin didn't just tolerate but my skin LOVED. Each one of these products made a difference how my skin looks and feels. Making it feel smoother, look less red, no texture or breakouts and overall a naturally radiant glow that I can wear with confidence everyday.

Now let's get into the good stuff...

1. Youth to the People Superfood Face Wash

I'm a lazy girl when it comes to taking off my makeup... I always remove it but I try to cut corners and make the process as fast as possible. That's why I love this Youth to the People Superfood Face Wash so much, I can remove my makeup and cleanse my face all in one go! Now to be fair I don't wear heavy makeup, usually a light to medium coverage foundation and mascara with some brows... now that not a lot to remove so if you wear fuller coverage or eyeliner etc. this may not work for you as well as it does for me. But none the less this fresh scented, vegan face wash makes me feel like I ran a 10km at 6am and ate a kale salad for lunch, in other words it makes me feel pretty damn good.

*And did I mention THE MOST CRUCIAL thing you could do for your skin is taking off your makeup

EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. Don't come running to me for skincare advice if you don't wash off your makeup every night. This is the basics and the bare minimum, don't miss it.

2. Glossier Solution

The second most important thing you should do for your skin is exfoliate. Exfoliating takes off the rough layer of skin and reveals a new fresh layer that is babies butt soft. Doing this step 2 to 3 times a week (depending on your skins needs) will dramatically decrease the amount of texture, pimples and dullness. So with that being said my favourite exfoliator is the Glossier Solution. I take 2-3 pumps onto a cotton pad and pat this all over my face. You can feel it starting to work instantly with a slight tingling sensation. This is what gets me excited... sometimes I'll even just pop a drop onto a pimple and feel it burning off my face LOL. *it does not burn your skin or hurt*

3. Milk Makeup Matcha Toner

Toning has been a new step for me. I never really understood the point of it until I tried the Milk Makeup Matcha Toner. The stick form makes it extremely easy to apply and pack with you when your travelling. I've noticed a major difference in my skins redness after applying the toner. My skin instantly feels cooled and calmed - it's the perfect step after you use the exfoliator.

4/5. Drunk Elephant Protini & Marula Facial Oil

I dare you to name a more iconic duo... I'll wait.

I've been wanting to try the Drunk Elephant Skincare for a long time now and all it took was for me to try the Protini and I was hooked. The packaging is a dream as it pumps out the exact amount of product you need being as sanitary as can be. The cream is almost like a gel cream hybrid - lightweight and smooth. My next encounter with Drunk elephant was when I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw a post about a 'skincare smoothie recipe'... intrigued I found out that she was adding the Marula Facial Oil to her pump of Protini! GENIUS! So the recipe goes: 1 pump of Protini with 2 pumps of Marula Facial Oil. Something about adding the oil into the cream makes it so much easier to apply and it just sinks right into the skin. So naturally I have 2 more Drunk Elephant products in my Sephora cart waiting for me to purchase.

6. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Now I can't do an entire skincare routine without mentioning a lip product - it just wouldn't be right. I'm a lip product junkie through and through so I had to mention my fave night time lip balm - Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. This is not just a balm it is exactly that - a lip mask. It smooths my dry lips and the lines on my lips somehow disappear. The light scent of bubblegum is a sweet treat to finish off the routine.

7. Rose Water or Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist

So because I'm on a budget I have been using and loving spritzing my face with rose water but on occasion I will treat myself to a bottle of the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. The way I like to describe it is a moisturizer mist - extremely hydrating milky texture. Rose water is a refreshing mist that feels great even to energize yourself mid-day. Ending off your skincare routine with a mist is a great way to lock in all of the great products you just used and keep your skin feeling fresh all night long.

Those are all my favourite skincare products as of December 13, 2018. I already have the a few Drunk Elephant items I've been meaning to try so I will do an updated version for you guys once these change!
